Oksana Grishina & Other Darkhorses to Watch At The Arnold

Oksana Grishina has quietly moved her way up the ranks of the IFBB Fitness world. Now that the routines are 2/3 of the overall score shes a dark horse to shake things up at the Fitness International. She has incredible strength combined with a solid gymnastic background to do very well this weekend.

At What Age Did You Start Exercising and Why?

This post was written back in 2008, but the poll didnt get many votes and the post didnt get any comments. Now that Project Swole has much more traffic and somewhat of a loyal community, I went and rewrote some of this piece and Im re-posting it today so that we can get more comments and votes. I think it will be an interesting study into the training background of most Swole readers.

We all know how beneficial exercise is to maintaining a healthy body. Kids dont usually know this and teenagers dont usually care. Typically it is up to parents and schools to educate kids about exercise and nutrition, cause quite frankly they arent very likely to do it themselves.

I learned about exercising in junior high school when some of my friends started curling and bench pressing to build the show muscles for the girls.

When the mind’s eye processes language

The mind’s eye can develop a knack for language in people who have been blind since birth.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) measures blood flow in the brain to determine which neurons are most active. Since the 1990s the technology has shown, surprisingly, that the visual cortex flares up even in blind people. More puzzlingly, this activity occurs when they were carrying out language tasks.

Rebecca Saxe at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says the result seemed implausible, because the visual cortex isn’t thought to be useful for language tasks.
