Assisted Living, Privacy with Assistance

My father has stage 4 pancreatic cancer. At this time he is still able to reside in his home with the help of visiting nurses and my mama. If any of these helps were not available, then we would have to choose other options. My first choice would be an Assisted Living facility which would give my parents the freedom to maintain their home life with the assistance of medical and housekeeping staff.

An assisted living facility offers apartment-like homes off of a main lobby. The lobby has limited access to strangers walking in off the street, but a staff maintains the door for residents and their guests. Each apartment opens into the main hall for safety and privacy. The apartments come in 4 sizes, studio with small kitchen, 1 bedroom with small kitchen, 1 bedroom with larger kitchen, and 2 bedrooms with larger kitchen. The cost of the apartment depends upon the size requested.

Nursing and staff medical services are available for each resident. The assisted living facility staff cleans the rooms weekly, does the laundry, and measures the medications for the residents. Medications are delivered daily in pre-sealed packages in bundles for breakfast, lunch, supper and bedtime. If any assistance is needed in bathing, etc., the staff comes by each day at your scheduled time to help.

What is best is that the resident has the independence they desire, and any assistance they may need. Removing the onerous tasks of laundry, cooking and cleaning frees time to enjoy numerous opportunities for the fun activities members of the golden years deserve. Within the scheduled daily activities calendar are parties weekly, dances, exercise classes, quilting bees, bridge clubs, pinochle tournaments, Rook contests and Chess matches. Book clubs and social clubs meet weekly, and there are worship services provided for all religions at the assisted living facility, or transportation provided by the staff. Entertainment performances for the residents are scheduled, either offsite with a van to transport, or onsite by visiting artists. There are even writing, drawing, and painting lessons offered at most facilities.
